Ariel Sharon rushed to the hospital 2006-1-5 1:53:46 |
I'm reading now that Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke. I'm not too educated about the whole Palestinian/Israeli conflict but I gathered that Ariel has made some good moves and some bad moves. Most recently he has been very pro peace for the Israeli side while pulling out of Gaza.
Despite his good moves, I find it strange that so many have forgotten about Sharon's involvement in the Sabra and Shatila massacres. The Kahan Commission (formally known as the Commission of Inquiry into the Events at the Refugee Camps in Beirut) investigating the massacres, recommended in early 1983 the removal of Sharon from his post as Defense minister. While he was vindicated from some of the responsibility, many still suspected that he was responsible for the events. Between 450 and 3500 civilians were killed in the massacre.
Many believe that he is the key for stability and peace in the region. I hope then, for the sake of peace and prosperity in a war torn region that he lives and or that other will continue to work for a stable solution. Tags: Link to this article

 Occam's Razor and the JFK assassination 2006-1-5 2:24:19 |

There are so many conspiracy theories floating around about the assassination of John F. Kennedy. I read about the stabilized Zapruder film on Boing Boing where you get a really good look at the assassination (or do you?). Tonight I read about the JFK assassination on the BBC News site. It was a plausible explanation and feels like a very simple explanation. While it is very difficult to prove - since Lyndon B Johnson is dead, I fear that conspiracy theorists while continue to dream up now complicated plots. I think the principle of Occam's Razor could be applied - Given two equally predictive theories, choose the simpler. Tags: Link to this article

 Morning - cold and hungry 2006-1-5 7:56:01 |
It's 2 C outside. It's cold. I got up maybe 40 minutes ago and drove back home to get my stuff and eat some breakfast. Stupid morning traffic. I should get a shower and get to work.
It seems as Ariel is still alive. Even more reports say that the Middle East is threatened by chaos if he dies. When Arafat dies, there was instability for a short while and people said that without Arafat the peace process was going under (he even received the Nobel Peace Price). My guess is that if Sharon dies it will lead to some instability for a short while and then it will sort itself out. People generally want peace and even if it gets worse for a while, events like this traditionally give any ongoing and outstretched process like this a bump towards it's solution. The evil guards of society 2006-1-5 9:19:00 |
I walk to work every morning and it seems like every morning I see parking enforcement guards marching on the streets. Parking enforcement is a plague of the society. The officers create only sadness and unhappiness for everyone. What's the point of having they at all? What good do they do? I think they exist to create a comfortable parking situation downtown. With the current policies for cars and traffic that's an impossible job. There are just too few parking spaces, even for the small number of people can afford the ridiculously expensive parking fees. So, with no parking spaces, parking enforcement officers can create only frustration and bitterness. Parking enforcement is a cancer that we need to purge from the society.

 Lexxe - the new search engine 2006-1-5 10:51:14 |
I found a new search engine today. It's really good. The results are better and more accurate than Google. Check out Lexxe for yourself. I tried a couple of keywords and it feels like the results are more relevant and not "purchased" by companies. However, it's unlikely that it will stay that way. Anyway, try it.

 Fainting Goats 2006-1-5 12:55:41 |

A lot of people have commented on the floating dog so I would like to share another clip. Meet the Fainting Goat. It's a rare breed of goat. When scaring these little creatures it causes a temporary stiffening of the muscles causing them to fall over. It looks hilarious, although my girlfriend frowns upon me for laughing at them. She mostly feels sorry for the poor fellas.
Update: Fixed the link. Apparently they didn't allow for me to link directly to the video. So I apologize for unnecessary banner exposure.
